The Face(book) of a Bio-engineering Company

The Project: How can a bio-engineering company utilize social networking to promote a positive image for itself while dealing with the controversy of creating “unnatural” products?

Group Sizes: 3-4 students

Project Due Dates:

Part 1 (20 points) Due on April 5th: Grading Rubrics and Contracts

Part 2 (10 points) Due on April 7th: Bio-engineering company name, address, website, and a brief description of what the company does.

Part 3 (50 points) Due on April 13th: Graphics to be included

Part 4 (50 points) Due on April 15th: All relevant text

Part 5 (100 points) Due on April 21st: Final Product

Part 6 (25 extra credit points) April 23rd: It's a surprise. You'll find out on the 23rd.

As a random test to see how many students are going to the class blog, I am posting this limited time only extra credit towards the project grade.

Add five vocabulary terms and the definition (in your own words), to any of these wiki pages: Graphic Design Terminology, HTML Tags, Video Game Terminology, Website Design Terminology. Please make sure that all vocabulary terms stay in alphabetical order.

The Clark County College Portfolio Day will be on Monday, December 14th between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM at the Las Vegas Academy. The Las Vegas Academy is located at 315 S. 7th Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. For a complete list of participating colleges see the flyers in Mr. Statucki’s classroom.

Google has announced their Model Your Own Town Competition using Google Sketchup. Sketchup is a free program from Google and works on PCs or Macs. For more information click here or see Mr. Statucki.

Daily Topic Posts

Make sure you are checking the calendar on the class website for the daily topic post. The calendar will have a direct link to the appropriate discussion topic. Failure to reply to the proper post will result in a 0 for that topic. Absent students do not need to respond to posts from days that are missed.

Each day’s posts are worth 5 points towards the classwork/homework grade.

CUE-SN is having their 7th Annual Multimedia Contest. This year’s theme is Explorations. The multimedia project can be any form of explorations, ie math explorations, science explorations, colonies and land explorations, digital age explorations, outer space explorations, or future explorations. The entry must be accompanied by an instructional objective or purpose/benefit. All entries must be submitted before March 31st, 2010. For more details see Mr. Statucki.

Hope everyone is enjoying their four-day weekend. I have added several tutorials and resources for Photoshop in the web resources section of this blog and class website. If you want to get better at Photoshop (and you should want to get better), please check out some of these tutorials.

CoyoteNet

All assignments and projects are being submitted through CoyoteNet. If you are missing assignments because you do not remember your username or password, please see the front office. Assignments will only be accepted through CoyoteNet or via email.

Adobe Guides

Among its many products, Custom Guide has some free downloadable guides for Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe products. The Adobe versions are for CS3, but it may be a good start for those of you who are struggling with Photoshop or Illustrator. You do have to sign-up to be able to print the guides.
